Challenge: Aircraft manufacturer Airbus is committed to eco-efficiency and the environment and in the lead up to the COP15 the debate over the contribution of aviation to CO2 emissions frequently littered the news agenda. The challenge was to deliver some balance to the debate and highlight the work that Airbus were doing with the United Nations Environment Programme around biodiversity loss.
Solution: Good Relations launched a survey that highlighted the lack of children’s knowledge of nature in the UK, using it to deliver a call to action to inform them on behalf of the United Nations. The call to action took place at a lecture of 200 people at The Royal Geographic Society with an audience from government, conservation NGOs and media. In addition Airbus sponsored an exhibition of National Geographic biodiversity images run at Mount Snowdonia.
Results: Airbus has now taken this activity global and an awareness raising initiative is in place for 2010 – the International Year of Biodiversity – with a partnership set to take place with UNESCO’s international touring exhibition.
