Challenge: Viridor Waste Management proposed to build the first Energy from Waste Combined Heat and Power Facility in Wales and needed planning permission, subject to public consultation, from Cardiff Council in order to make this a reality.
Solution: Good Relations Wales wrote all press materials, information leaflets and exhibition boards as well as text for a website. A dedicated phone line was also established and GR Wales acted as Viridor’s press office. We also organised public exhibitions within the residential areas closest to the proposed facility and provided briefings in conjunction with government agencies and representatives for the communities’ benefit.
Result: With balanced media coverage and proactive representatives from Viridor owning the argument, there is a great deal of support within the local community for the plans. The overall perception is that the scheme is positive and something that the city of Cardiff and the surrounding areas very much needs.
