Demonstrations regarding The Democratic Republic of Congo
Thursday 29 December 2011
A demonstration took place outside our Holborn offices on Wednesday 28th December 2011 organised by a Congolese women’s group. The demonstrators claim that Bell Pottinger and, in particular the Chairman of our Public Affairs business, Peter Bingle, are working in support of the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
This is not true.
Bell Pottinger does not work for President Kabila; for the government of the DRC and did not work in any form on the recent election in that country.
Peter Bingle has never worked for the DRC or any other African government. Bell Pottinger Public Affairs (BPPA) focuses on UK and EU public affairs matters.
We have contacted the organisers of the current campaign against the DRC election result to understand why we have been implicated but have yet to receive a response. We continue to seek a dialogue with that group to bring this matter to a close.
The materials circulated at the demonstration and via the web are offensive, malicious and threatening. We will take legal action against those individuals and groups creating and distributing such statements.
